How Pinterest can bring visitors to your blog and give you a better Google ranking

SEO Wednesday-Social Media

Pinterest and SEOPinterest is pinboard style photo sharing site which has been online since March 2010. Since then it has turned into one of the most popular sites on the Internet, and in August 2012 it had almost 25 million people visiting the site. Pinterest is hot and popular, but how can Pinterest increase the popularity of my site?

Before I continue I want to tell you that Pinterest is no magic tool that will place you at the top of Google results in a minute or two. However Pinterest is a useful tool and if used correctly, it can have a very positive effect on your SEO efforts.

Three ways in which Pinterest can help your blog

1) You connect with new people

Maybe you feel disappointed, but connecting with new people and networking is a very important part of SEO. You never know who will pin your images, like them, share them and maybe link to your blog and posts, therefore connecting with people and enlarging your network is always useful.

2) You will get a high quality link to your website

Social Media sites have great domain authority and so also Pinterest. As you create your Pinterest profile you will have the chance to add the address of your website, and as soon as you confirm it, it will start showing up on your profile. As you build your network and add friends (and they add you back), there will be more and more links pointing back to your profile. Links will also be made back to your profile as you like, pin, comment and favourite other peoples pins, and all in all there will be loads of links referring to your profile. The end result will be a good Page Rank for your profile which makes the link pointing back to your blog/website a real juicy one.

3) It will bring traffic to your page

As you pin a picture/image/illustration in one of your blog posts it will be shared with the rest of the Pinterest world. The Pinterest site for the the pin contains a link to your blog post where it was originally posted. The links are „no-follow”, which means they do not have any SEO value, but they do bring visitors to your site. A visitor does not influence your SEO just by visiting your page, but if you get many new visitors from Pinterest some of them will for sure spend time on your blog, look around, read articles and what else… share your content on social media. And as they do so they are absolutely helping your SEO efforts.

I hope these SEO Wednesday advices on how you can use Pinterest to advance your SEO efforts has blessed you. If any of you have further wisdom, advices and insight on the subject, I would love to hear from you in a comment.

If you are on Pinterest yourself do not forget to follow me (and then I will follow you back afterwards).
